kirill
a thing with programmers is that they are often busy bc of having Job Skills (fair!!!), so when computer people offer to help i'm like, sure that would be nice!!, but i don't necessarily expect it to happen... KIRILL on the other hand jumped into the github issues & started ~DOING SHIT~ before i even responded to his intro email: HELL YEAH!!
back in moscow, kirill was part of the collectives running the experimental EROTIKA festival (hot) & acoasm ("cassette label focused on noise, drone, electroacoustic & experimental"). GR8!!
also the first time greg & i went to meet up with kirill in-person (in september 2024), i realized as i was rolling up to the ramen spot that we didn't know what he looked like... & then i saw THIS:
alt text: kirill, mid-laugh while looking at the laptop he has propped on his leg, which leg is draped across one of those big bright-orange construction-slash-traffic drums on a midtown street thick with construction; there's a bulldozer directly behind him, & he's wearing a camo hat over thick brown wavy hair & a beard. the vibe is very '90s??? which i mean in a complimentary "hackers" movie kinda way. he's probably laughing because we hadn't met yet but i was yelling DO NOT MOVE so i could take this picture.
THAT'S OUR GUY!!
STUFF KIRILL'S DONE FOR NYC NOISE LATELY
–– created the "SHARE" feature: if u click "SHARE" on any event, you get a special link to send that event (by text, email, whatever); the preview will show all the important info (date, time, venue, artists), & when recipient clicks the link, they're taken to the exact listing (briefly highlighted) within the body of main page calendar. :D
often event listing sites have individual event pages, but i felt like that didn't make sense if we weren't providing extra info on the stand-alone page (like if u wanna text your pal the ticket link, you can just do that)... i wanted a way to send someone a show where the preview has everything you want them to know, the landing spot gives access to full details & all ticketing / event / map / ical / gcal links, & also for it to be within the context of the calendar. this is extremely specific & possibly unreasonable, but that's why Computer Pals are magic!!! THANK YOU, KIRILL!!
–– scraped the city's rent-stabilized building lists: okay so the rest of you haven't even seen this yet, but i have a psycho idea i've been brainstorming, for a rent-rollback push via "rent-stabilized census"; step 1 was getting a pile of info (from these pdfs for mnhtn, bklyn, bronx, queens, staten island), which kirill did HURRAY!!!, & now i'm doing some more sluggy data entry / research before we start next steps...
–– geocoded / scraped / whatever all the map coordinates: we luv MAP!!!
